Mac Malware

by Holly Howell, HH Designs

I just set a record with phone support to Apple Computer this past week. Macs are not impervious to malware. It took 3 software tech support conversations (over an hour each) and a visit to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store (also over an hour) to find the malicious problem.

If the software on your Apple computers are not allowing you to do regular updates, malware might be the issue. Search your apps for one called Omnibar. You must remove this app quickly and carefully. You also need to search with for anything on your computer that says Genio. This word may be embedded within html in your files. All of those files need to go into your trash and ….. empty the trash.

I was having problems with Apple Mail first. I missed a few important emails from my GoDaddy account on Apple Mail. That upset me. Then, I had a constant stream of updates to Adobe’s Creative Cloud. Within minutes of finishing updates, I had the same updates needing to be redone. That really upset me. The final upset was when Safari up and quit on me and refused to stay open for more than .5 seconds.

Mac users are not used to having malware issues. The last Apple tech support person that I spoke to said that “We would all being hearing more about this Omnibar – Genio malware.”

Call Apple software tech support right away if any of these software issues sound familiar to you.
