Linking Strategies for your web site
Link popularity is still an underutilized strategy. Link popularity will increase traffic to your web site and increase your web site’s positioning with many search engines. In addition, the proper linking strategy will drive targeted traffic to your site.
These are the steps you should follow in order to maximize
your linking strategy:
- Find out who your biggest competitors currently link to by visiting AltaVista.com
or google.com. Once you have this information, use it as a list of web sites
to start from.
- You may want to have a “resource” page on your site which links
the web sites you’d like to be linked from. Once you have this resource, you
can notify the targeted web site and ask for a reciprocal link. (Make sure that
you use the “Target=_blank” command to automatically open a new browser)
- When
asking for a reciprocal link, make sure you direct them to where they can find
their link on your web site. It should be easy to find and look professional.
- You should always link to a web site which targets your intended audience
so that you can drive their traffic to your site.
- Link to as many relevant
web sites as possible in order to create a preferable page rank and good relevance
to search engines. This will increase your chances of getting closer to the top.
- Make sure you visit the web site you’d like to be linked to before you make
the request. You don’t want to be linked to an unacceptable web site, which may
ruin your reputation and credibility.
- Ensure to have all your contact information
including phone number, website and e-mail address when contacting your future
linking partners.
- Stay away from Free For All link submission sites. These sites submit
your web address to hundreds of thousands of web sites throughout the internet,
with no real relevance. This will automatically ban you from most search engines.
