Consumer confidence is the lowest it’s been in 41 years and I see only opportunity. I think now is the time to really show off the benefits of your product or service. I’ve seen an increase in my client base recently, small business owners are trying to find new ways to stay afloat during these hard times.
Businesses are going to have to find new ways to market them selves or, sadly, they will go under. Since the issue at hand is money, you really have to get your name out there and show potential clients how you can help them save. For example, a fitness instructor can show people how getting in shape can help reduce their medical bills or a realtor showing the savings they can provide by being exclusively a buyers broker and agent.
For most people I have to recommend relatively low-cost methods of marketing. Optimizing your website for search engines and for conversions (SEO/SEM) are good one time costs that can serve to increase business over time. Increasing your social networking and word-of-mouth via sites like Myspace and Facebook can draw in a variety of new clients and is a great way to see what people are really saying.
And really, if your leg is broke you see a doctor, if your business isn’t working for you seek a professional's help and keep your business going.
