This illustration is for a children's book I'm currently illustrating for a client. The title of her book is "Robert Smalls African American Man in Mind and Body". Based on a true story. The book describes the bravery of a heroic young black man who defied all odds against him to rescue his family who were in bondage to slavery. He along with eight other black sailors evade confederate enemies and sailed north to freedom.
