Leith finished master's degree at R.I.T. in graphic design with minor in printing technology in 1982. The next 6 years were spent art directing Folio Magazine and then Cook's Magazine in Connecticut. In 1989 Leith Design Group was formed. For 20 years I have art directed several major trade and consumer publications (including several magazine re-designs), designed for several luxury cruise companies, and numerous clients in all types of media. I relocated back to Western New York in 2001.
NFO—a respected and established U.S. marketing research firm—wanted to send their clients an up-to-the-minute read on global research, innovative research tools, services and expertise in the form of a monthly newletter. I designed this template for their in-house marketing department to use in subsequent mailings.
Golf Digest Productions commissioned me to art direct and produce this 80-page perfect bound book. It was offered in a package including a CD, DVD and Video Cassette as well.
Knowledge Industries Publishing, White Plains, NY, came to me with their 64-page magazine looking for a re-design and ongoing art direction. I went on to art direct the magazine for five years until it was sold in 1994. Magazine design is a field I have alot of experience in. Other magazines I have art directed are: Folio Magazine, Catalog Age, Cook's Magazine, Benefits & Compensation Solutions Magazine, Non-Foods Merchandising, Cabling Magazine and CAB Report.
Sea Air Holidays, an international travel and tour marketing company, wanted to develop a new branch to their services which would appeal to a more fitness-minded audience. I helped launch the "Passport to Health & Adventure" series featuring European travel with health and fitness programs as the centerpiece. Here is the first brochure featuring Cycling through France and Italy.
The Siemon Company, an international leader in the development and manufacture of telecommunications cabling systems, wanted an easy-to-understand graphic translation showing their highly technical cabling system as the foundation of a fully integrated voice, imaging and data network. This 12 page capabilities brochure features a 3 page pull-out gatefold showing an illuminated view of their system at work.
This was the year Vermont Pure built their bottling plant in Randolph, VT. They were positioning themselves as the American brand of spring water, direct competitors of Avian from France. My solution was to go Red, White and Blue and use the new building blueprint as a background throughout. The inside back cover has a flap used to hold the annual report itself during AP season, but to hold sales materials throughout the rest of the year, making the presentation multi-purpose.
Rio Incomparable, a meeting and Incentives Consortium, commissioned me to design this first brochure as a template for the many destinations they offer. I flew to Rio to art direct the photography. It is printed with both gloss and matte varnish with a vellum locator map inside.
Siemon Company, a world-class developer and manufacturer of telecommunications cabling systems, came to me and wanted a re-design of their quarterly magazine called "Wiring." Even the title needed a facelift.
Elegant Cruises & Tours publishes a catalog featuring all their expedition programs once a year. This year showcased the newest ship in the company, the M.S. Andrea. I printed this 32 page saddle-stiched brochure using both gloss and matte varnish throughout with gold foil stamp on cover.
