2008 NORI AWARDS ALL-STAR JUDGES

08 Albany Nori Award Judges(GROUP PHOTO caption:)  Line-up from left to right:
Steve James, Toby Trygg, Jeff Cole, Emilia Andrews, Erich Hartmann and Bob Green

Steve James
As Creative Director at Ashley & Associates/OctaneVTM, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve possesses an extensive background in advertising and communications design and creative thinking.  Prior to moving to Indianapolis, Steve was President and Creative Director for Steve James Design, Inc., his communications design firm in Buffalo, NY. Steve also taught at SUNY Buffalo in the Department of Art.  He also served as Vice President of the Board of Governors for the Kenan Center for the Arts and was President and, later, Treasurer for the Art Directors/Communicators Club of Buffalo.  Steve’s previous positions include Creative Services Director for the Peter J. Schmitt Co., a grocery and hardlines distributor and retailer, and Assistant Advertising Manager/Corporate Art Director for Twin Fair, Inc. a discount retail chain. Both companies were based in Buffalo.  After graduating from SUNY College at Buffalo with a BS in Design, Steve worked as Senior Art Director for Sheridan Advertising, Inc. He lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife Robin and their high school sophomore-son, Parker.

Toby Trygg
Toby is Associate Creative Director at Colangelo, heading up the Smithwick’s Ale business. Like most people in advertising, Toby originally dreamed of joining the circus. Who could blame him? There's nothing like the adrenaline rush you get from being launched out of a cannon. Unfortunately, the circus wouldn't have him. So he turned his attention to the only other industry whose members regularly jump through hoops: Advertising.   He started his career in the mailroom. Well....that's not entirely true. But he did have to walk past the mailroom every day, to reach his cubicle. In fact, he spent the first 10 years in the advertising business sitting near the mailroom but in ever-larger cubicles and, later, offices.  Prior to joining Colangelo, Toby worked at agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, Young and Rubicam and The Gate Worldwide, where he also served as Director of Convergence.   Toby is a graduate of Art Center College of Design and currently lives in Darien, CT, with his wife, Megan, and their three children, Griffin, Estella, and Everett - none of whom have any interest in running away and joining the circus…yet.

Jeff Cole
Jeff is Creative Director and one of the founders of three, a full-service advertising agency in Atlanta. In just over six years, Jeff and his partners have taken the agency from five people on folding tables to a 40-person shop. Their client list includes the Simmons Mattress Company, Shaw Carpeting, Safeco Insurance, Kimberly Clark and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Past experience includes premier accounts like The Ritz-Carlton Hotels and Resorts, Dunlop-Slazenger, NAPA Auto Parts, The San Diego Zoo, Giant Bicycles and WD-40. Jeff's work has been honored in a number of national and international shows and publications including One Show, Communication Arts, Graphis, New York Festivals, the Effies and Adweek's Best Ads of the Year.  Jeff is on the Atlanta Ad Club Board of Directors and teaches concepting classes at the Portfolio Center. He is married and has a nine year old daughter.

Emilia Andrews
Emilia is co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Beholder Productions.  As COO, she overseas all aspects of production, ensuring quality programming, effective network of professionals, and furthering the advancement of Beholder in the Philadelphia marketplace and beyond.   Emilia spent 12 years in healthcare/nursing, working on pediatric sub-acute/trach-ventilator units for 7 years.  The changing landscape in healthcare and passion for being a storyteller enabled her to join forces with her husband, Craig and form Beholder.  Emilia serves as Board President for the AWRT Philadelphia/Tri-State Chapter, currently her 3rd term.  Her mission continues to build a solid base of professional men and women of radio, television and allied fields within her Chapter.  With Beholder, Emilia oversees the firms largest accounts and has spearheaded high profile national and regional programming launches for The Weather Channel, FA Davis Publishing Company, Disney Corporation, La Salle University, and Wei East Cosmetics, to name just a few.

Erich Hartmann
Erich grew up in advertising. His father owned a small agency in Richmond, VA so he spent his childhood in radio booths and dark editing suites, living off M&Ms.  He attended “The VCU Ad Center” before it was spun off into a Graduate Program. While other students took part-time jobs in restaurants, Erich worked as a gofer, a gaffer, a DP, an editor and a producer on local, regional and national commercial and film productions. The day after graduation, he took a Greyhound to New York carrying only a guitar and a pillow. The day after that, he began work at Ogilvy NY, were he produced much lauded work for AIG, Hershey, American Express, Kodak, and GTE. He even invented the term “AnyTime Minutes.” (Seriously!)  In late ’98, he jumped cross-town to Y&R NY where he immediately began producing award-winning work for The Bronx Zoo, The New York Cancer Project, The Urban Cat League, as well as high profile campaigns for venerable global clients like Dannon, Colgate, Fisher Price, Phillip Morris, MetLife and Campbells’ brands like Pace, Prego, and V8.   In 2007, Erich left the predictable, cushy “big agency” life and struck out on his own, where he’s presently working harder than he ever has…and having the time of his life. His clients range from Verizon to NYU Stern School of Business.

Bob Green
Owner of Green Graphics Design, Inc. in Rochester, NY, Bob is originally from Long Island and attended graphic design school at Rochester Institute of Technology. He developed his professional skills as a graphic designer/art director at Eastman Kodak Company. After 20 years in the corporate world, Bob decided to form his own business as a design consultant to small and midsized businesses locally and nationally. Bob is also an adjunct instructor at Bryant & Stratton College teaching various graphic design courses within the Rochester area and a member of the President's Council for the Chicago based ICODA (a not for profit organization that supports creativity in the arts for deaf & hearing impaired children) plus a member of a local Rotary club. Bob resides in Scottsville, NY and is happily married to his wife, Sally. Their daughter (Samantha) will soon graduate from Hartwick College.
