BRAINSTORM TO CHANGE NAME TO ADVERTISING CLUB OF BUFFALO |

Brainstorm – The Communicator’s Club of Buffalo is in the process of changing its name to Advertising Club of Buffalo, to better reflect the programming offered by the Club and line of work of its members. A competition is currently being conducted among Club members to create Advertising Club of Buffalo’s logo and identity, and the winning submission will be announced at the local ADDY Awards program on March 23.
The logo selection is open to the entire Advertising Club of Buffalo membership. Club members gain entry into the free logo category as part of the ADDY Show call for entries, which will be going out shortly. The ADDY judges will offer their top choices and then the board of directors will pick from those in a vote.
“One of the primary goals of the name change is to give the Club a more traditional name,” said Matt Steinberg, president, Advertising Club of Buffalo, and creative services manager, Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau. “People were often confused by the Brainstorm name, so we have simplified the matter with our new name. Effective communication starts with simplicity, and that’s what we were looking for in our new identity.”
Before adopting the name Brainstorm after a merger with Art Directors/Communicators of Buffalo in 2000, the Western New York advertising club was known as ProCom, which it operated as for decades previously.
“Unfortunately, we were finding that there was a real disconnect with the Brainstorm name,” said Andy Brocato, past-president, Advertising Club of Buffalo, and manager of community relations, Tops Markets, LLC. “Most people from outside of the industry didn’t understand the name’s context and we would find ourselves having to constantly explain the name. Advertising Club of Buffalo is much more direct and avoids clutter, and in our industry, that’s important.”
The ADDY Awards competition will take place on Friday, March 23 at the Statler Towers. It is sponsored by Advertising Club of Buffalo, a member association comprised of advertising and media professionals. The ADDY Awards is a three-tiered national competition conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation, and is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition for creative excellence.
