Depew, NY – April marks the 25 Year Anniversary of SKM Group, a full-service marketing communications agency, located just outside of Buffalo, NY. Since its founding on April 29, 1986 by Susan K. Meany, the woman-owned agency has grown into an innovative national leader offering award-winning results for clients in a wide range of industries.
In its 25 years, SKM Group has transformed from a direct marketing-focused firm to an agency offering branding, interactive, media planning, public relations, broadcast and print-based creative to regional and national clients. “The first 25 years have flown by,” Susan Meany said. “Because of the continual need to utilize the most innovative technologies, it’s an ever changing industry. The internet didn’t exist when we opened our doors. Today, much of the marketing we do for clients is online with websites and social media.”
To celebrate its silver anniversary, SKM Group created a major fundraising initiatve to honor a long-time employee who battled cancer recently. The company intends to raise $25,000 for the American Cancer Society with donations from friends, clients and suppliers. SKM will match all funds raised by supporting other cancer-related organizations locally and across the country, up to an additional $25,000. Agency staff will participate in cancer-related events throughout the year, including the American Cancer Society’s “Cuisine for a Cure” and Roswell Park’s “Ride for Roswell.” “It was difficult to choose a cause to support as there are so many worthy ones,” Meany said. “However, supporting one of our own employees through her battle has made this the right cause for us this year.”
SKM Group began when Meany left a successful career as a direct marketing salesperson to start her own company, Marketing Resources of New York. The company initially specialized in direct marketing, but offerings quickly expanded to include a wide range of services to meet clients’ full-service marketing needs. The corporate name was changed to SKM Group in 2000.
In 2001, SKM Group acquired Creative Concepts, a local advertising agency, to expand business-to-business expertise and establish a national client base with the introduction of new industry specialties such as manufacturing and technology. SKM Group grew again in 2003, acquiring another ad agency, The Schutte Group, that extended SKM’s brand expertise with health, retail, and service-based clients. The agency recently opened a second office in Naples, Florida to better service the expanding list of Southern-based clients.
Throughout its history, SKM Group constantly evolved, updating four logos, moving into larger office spaces to accommodate an expanding staff, and excelling in various channels and new markets. Today, the agency offers specialized expertise in grocery marketing, energy, banking, insurance, and hospital marketing. “With 25 years behind us, we feel positioned for tremendous growth. The best is ahead of us,” says Meany.
