MEDIA STREAM HONORED WITH GOLD ASTER AWARD FOR FILM EXPRESSING NEED FOR PTSD CENTER FOR RETURNING VETS IN THE HUDSON VALLEY

Albany, NY Albany NY Region

Albany based digital video production company, Media Stream recently received a Gold Aster Award for a film produced for Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. The film announced the opening of the hospital's Military Wellness Center serving returning veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The center also provides counseling to the families of PTSD sufferers. The film reenacts the events Sgt. James Vermette Jr. experienced while serving in Iraq and what he and his family went through when he returned home suffering from PTSD. The production included interviews with Sgt. Vermette and his family along with hospital staff.

“Media Stream is happy to be receiving another Gold Aster Award with Saint Francis Hospital ” said Media Stream President John Heaney. “Being part of the hospital’s outreach to returning vets and their families who suffer from PTSD is a special honor. However, the ultimate honor goes to Sgt. Vermette and his family for their sacrifice and their willingness to discuss an often difficult issue” Heaney credits Hospital Director of Development Pamela Landolt for making the film possible along with Jack Fedigan of the Market Street Industrial Park in Wappingers Falls for providing locations used in the film's reenactments. The film starred Stephen Tenner as Sgt. Vermette and Maria Dimitsriau Montague as his wife, Ashley. The production reunited Sgt. Vermette with childhood friend Shawn Schaffer, the film's Director of Photography. Schaffer has recently worked on other projects involving veterans including Comedy Warriors for Showtime Networks. Schaffer added “It was great reconnecting with Jimmy and his family. Bringing attention to the ongoing issues that affect vets and their families suffering from PTSD meant a lot to me.”
